Meet Ricky Waring

Perhaps no one has been more qualified to serve as our Mayor than Ricky Waring. His service to Summerville is unmatched and his demonstrated leadership is unquestioned.

Ricky grew up in Summerville attending Summerville schools. After graduating from high school, he joined the Summerville Fire Department as a volunteer fireman. He was hired by the town one year later. Three years later, Ricky became Summerville’s first paid Fire Chief.

In 1995, Ricky was promoted to Public Safety Director overseeing Summerville’s Police and Fire Departments. In 1998, he was again promoted to Operations Director for the Town of Summerville.

After retiring from the Town, Ricky wanting to continue his public service. He then decided to run for Town Council. He won and served two terms from 2003-2011. He also served as Mayor Pro Tem from June 2002 – June 2007 and again from June 2009 – 2011.

Ricky has also been active in our community as a member of the Summerville Exchange Club, Past Noon Lions Club, Summerville Masonic Lodge, Omar Shrine Temple, Dorchester Shrine Club, and the Dorchester Boat Club.

Ricky and his wife Barbara have been married for 49 years and have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. The Warings are members of Summerville Presbyterian Church.

On September 24, 2018, Ricky announced his plans to run for Mayor.
